Goyder Wind Farm Mechanical Completion Walkdown

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Goyder South Stage 1 is the first stage of Neoen’s Goyder Renewables Zone. GE Renewable Energy Australia and Elecnor Group’s Green Light Contractors are the EPC Consortium partners for Stages 1A and 1B, comprising 38 and 37 x 5.5MW wind turbine generators respectively.

GE Australia is supplying, installing, commissioning, and testing the wind turbine generators. As a Quality Assurance worker representing the client, the primary objective is to meticulously inspect both the electrical and mechanical components of the wind turbine installation. This comprehensive assessment aims to identify any deficiencies, discrepancies, or potential safety hazards that may compromise the functionality and reliability of the wind turbine system.

SCOPE OF WORK

Following RSGx’s mechanical completion walkdown inspection and comprehensive review of all documentation in preparation for the first energisation and commissioning phase, several critical areas for improvement were identified. These findings are pivotal for ensuring the successful energisation of the wind turbine system. The walkdown encompassed:

  •  Electrical and mechanical systems verification: A meticulous examination of both electrical and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Documentation review: Thorough scrutiny of all documentation related to the wind turbine installation, including schematics, manuals, and maintenance records, to identify gaps and discrepancies that could impact the energisation process.

  • Identification of key improvement areas: Identification of key areas for improvement and enhancement to optimise the efficiency, safety, and reliability of the wind turbine system during the energisation phase.

SOLUTION

In conclusion, the wind turbine walk-down represents a pivotal phase in the quality assurance process, facilitating the identification and resolution of punch list items before they escalate into more significant problems.

ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE

With the aid of robust project management software insights, RSGx efficiently conducted the mechanical walkdown, pin-pointing crucial areas for enhancement to guarantee a secure energisation process. RSGx’s adaptability and promptness not only secured client satisfaction but also ensured both effectiveness and efficiency throughout the project’s execution.
