RSGx is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract for the PTP Stage 2 construction of approximately 111 kilometres of 220kV overhead transmission lines connecting Cloudbreak Mine, Christmas Creek Mine, and Lambda Substation (Contract) as part of Fortescue’s decarbonisation program.

Fortescue is committed to decarbonising its operations in mining, port, rail, non-process Infrastructure (NPI) and mobile fleet in the Pilbara in Western Australia to achieve real zero emissions by 2030. Fortescue’s decarbonisation plan includes development of green power generation, which consists of 2-3 GW of renewable (wind and solar) energy generation and battery storage; the renewable power generated will be transmitted to Fortescue’s electrical network via dedicated connections.

The Contract scope of works consists of:

  • Procurement (fibre optic splice enclosures, splicing trays, earthing cable and signage)
  • Site establishment
  • Clearing and trimming of vegetation
  • 246 power pole installation
  • Installation of pole at Substation sites for lightning protection
  • 111km stringing of conductor
  • 111km stringing of optical ground wire
  • OPGW termination
  • Fibre optic splice installation
  • Installation of pole earthing
  • Testing of conductor, optical ground wire and earthing
  • Installation of ariel marker balls
  • Demobilisation and rehabilitation

Michael O’Connell, RSGx State Manager, stated: “We are proud to partner once again with Fortescue on this strategic and future-focused infrastructure. Delivering this critical 111km transmission line scope reinforces our continued focus on power infrastructure projects and our commitment to supporting Australia’s energy transition. We are excited to contribute to PTP Stage 2 and the Fortescue decarbonisation program and to play a role in delivering this landmark project.”

Daniel Smith, RSGx Operations Manager, added: “Mobilisation for PTP Stage 2 is well underway, and our team is committed to delivering this project safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. We look forward to building on our trusted partnership with Fortescue and supporting their decarbonisation objectives with reliable and high-performance transmission solutions.”
