Construction Manager – Transmission/Distribution Linework
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Operations Manager to join our growing team. This pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing the successful planning, execution, and management of our transmission and/or distribution linework projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in overhead and underground powerline construction and maintenance, coupled with extensive expertise in the safe and efficient operation of specialized plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of lineworkers and plant operators, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- Project Management: Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of linework projects, ensuring adherence to project specifications, timelines, and budget.
- Safety Management: Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant WHS regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Plant & Equipment Management: Manage the allocation, maintenance, and safe operation of specialized plant and equipment, including but not limited to:
- Cranes (including Franna and larger hydraulic cranes)
- Borer Cranes / Pole Erection Units
- Various Trucks (e.g., elevated work platform trucks, heavy haulage)
- Winches and associated rigging equipment
- Other specialized linework machinery
- Resource Management: Optimize resource allocation, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality standards, meeting regulatory requirements and client expectations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise effectively with clients, engineers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless project coordination and communication.
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve operational challenges, implementing effective solutions to maintain project momentum.
- Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on project progress, performance, and safety metrics.
- Budget Management: Monitor and manage project budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
About you
Proven experience in an Operations Management or Senior Supervisory role within the transmission or distribution linework industry, and extensive hands-on experience and a deep understanding of overhead and/or underground powerline construction, maintenance, and fault finding.
Demonstrable expertise in the safe and efficient operation and management of specialized plant and equipment, including:
- Crane operations and relevant licenses (e.g., Dogging, Rigging, Crane Operator tickets).
- Experience with borer cranes/pole erection units.
- Proficiency with various types of trucks used in linework.
- Strong knowledge of winching techniques and rigging.
- Relevant trade qualifications (e.g., Cert III in ESI – Distribution Linework) and/or tertiary qualifications in a related field are highly regarded.
- Current and valid relevant High Risk Work Licences.
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards, WHS regulations, and industry best practices specific to the power industry.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressures.
- Valid Western Australian C-class driver’s license.
