Electrical fit-out and surface building electrical installation – Road Infrastructure

WESTCONNEX MOTORWAY CONTROL CENTRE (WMCC) AND SURFACE BUILDING ELECTRICAL FIT OUT ON THE WESTCONNEX M4-M5 LINK TUNNELS PROJECT.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

WestConnex, the largest road infrastructure project in Australia, is a 33-kilometre motorway network that will be delivered in 4 stages by Transurban. The M4 opened in July 2019, the M8, opened in July 2020, the M4-M5 Link Tunnels, due to open in 2023 and the Rozelle Interchange, also due to open in 2023.

RSGx are performing work on the third stage of the project, the M4-M5 Link Tunnels. The M4M5 Link Tunnels will consist of 7.5 kilometres of tunnels, linking the New M4 at Haberfield with the M8 at St Peters, with connections to the Anzac and Iron Cove bridges via the Rozelle Interchange.

 

SCOPE OF WORK

RSGx’s scope of work includes the WMCC electrical fit out and surface building electrical installation at St. Peters Interchange (SPI), which consists of a number of surface buildings, some of them constructed as part of the M8 project.

RSGx has undertaken the following work at the WMCC –

  • Supply and install of GPO stacks to the operators’ desks
  • Installation of cabinets and CCTV
  • Installation, termination and testing all cabling.

RSGx has undertaken following works on the surface buildings:

Installation of free issue equipment such as emergency exit signage, general LED lighting for ventilation rooms, antennae, air quality sensors (CO/NO2/Vis), exhaust air circuits, PTZ CCTV
camera, UPS distribution boards, IP audio encoder/decoder, RF combiner, server rack, substation OMCS cabinets.

  • Installation of Low Voltage (LV) distribution networks, switchgear and control gear, air velocity sensor, air quality sensor including associated support and brackets.
  • Supply and installation of earth bar (VEB), all earthing and bonding within the fire pump room
  • Installation, termination and testing of all submains, earth cables and fibre within the scope of the project.
  • Splicing and testing for fibre cable installed
  • Conduit mandrelling in the LV pits.
  • Installation of mechanical protection.
  • Inspection and testing.
  • Axial fan commissioning.

 

SOLUTION

RSGx carried out electrical installation work and all handling, assembly, installation into position and all consumables required for the complete installation of the electrical, ITS and
telecommunications systems. RSGx provided all plant and equipment required to carry out the installation works. RSGx conducted testing and brought the equipment to a condition of
Mechanical Completion and ready for Commissioning handover.

The submain cable installation scope of works was carried over day and night shifts to meet the Client program, with a peak staffing level of 40 electrical workers and two supervisors (day/night).

 

ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE

RSG’s performance on the project led to RSG being awarded additional subcontract works within the tunnel. The construction, and completions activities on the project were completed on time, on budget and without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).
