RSGx awarded the electrolysis cable installation and testing for Melbourne Southern Program Alliance AWP4 Project
RSGx are excited to announce that we have been awarded the electrolysis cable installation and testing in the Additional Works Package 4 project area (AWP4)on the Southern Program Alliance (SPA) project. The SPA project is a section of the $6 billion Level Crossings Removal Project in Melbourne, Victoria, which involves the removal of 75 level crossings, of which 2 are included in AWP4.
The subcontract works are for installation, jointing, termination, and testing of approximately 5km of 3C 185sqmm 22kV cable and 2km of 185sqmm Electrolysis cable.
The 22kV cable installation scope is to install two new u runs in a newly constructed CSR route between Caulfield Junction and the existing 22kV underground cables near Mackay street, Glen Huntly.
The Electrolysis cable installation is broken up into 2 installations:
• 2x185sqmm cables between existing Caulfield substation and a proposed electrolysis box near Clifton St, Caulfield East. Provisions for connections also need to be made at:
o Caulfield substation
o the existing electrolysis box at VTS CA 051 (Derby Crescent North of Epson Street)
o the proposed electrolysis box near Clifton Street, Caulfield East
• 2 x 185sqmm cables between Clifton Street, Caulfield East, and Neerim Road (new electrolysis pit CFD-EL-006)
State Manager Damian Hall has said: “We have been involved in the level crossings project for many years now, and our recent performance in delivering the HV enabling works on AWP2, on time, on budget, and without a safety incident has enhanced our reputation and has allowed to be at the forefront for this type of award. We hope to continue this relationship with the SPA team and deliver another challenging scope.”
Work is due to begin on the project in mid-2022 with expected completion in early 2023.
